Virginia Lee (Johnson) Brubaker
February 13, 1937 – April 25, 2013

Virginia Lee (Johnson) Brubaker passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Lancaster, Missouri.
The daughter of Jesse Andrew and Verle Inez (Pickens) Johnson, Virginia was born February 13, 1937 at her parents home just south of Glenwood, Missouri. She spent her early years in Decatur, Illinois and when she was ten, her family moved back to Schuyler County. She attended schools in Greentop, Glenwood, Queen City and then graduated from Lancaster High School with the Class of l956. Virginia loved participating in tract meets and excelled at high school basketball.
On January 7, 1956 she married Dale E. Brubaker of Lancaster, Missouri and to this union two children were born, a son, Michael Dale and a daughter, Eva Marie.
Virginia and Dale purchased the family farm northeast of Lancaster and spent their entire married life on that farm. Virginia was a stay at home Mom while the kids were young and later worked as an assistant in a local dentist office. Among her accomplishments, Virginia was proudest of the nine years she served as a licensed Emergency Medical Technician for the Schuyler County Ambulance District.
Virginia loved gardening and enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. She had a host of friends and was great at making everyone feel welcome in her home.
Virginia is survived by her son, Michael Brubaker and wife, Colleen of Kalamazoo, Michigan; her daughter, Marie Smyser and husband, Quinten of Lancaster, Missouri; 1 granddaughter; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Linda Dixon and husband, John of Ottawa, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Mary Virginia Hogle of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Barbara Luby of Dallas, Texas; her brother-in-law, Bill Brubaker and wife, Linda of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and also a host of cousins and countless friends.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Verle and Jesse Johnson, her husband, Dale; a sister, Patricia Lewis and a brother PFC Jesse (Jackie) Johnson. She was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Chuck Hogle, George Luby and John Brubaker and his wife, Carrie Lee.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Leanna van Zandt, Pastor of the United Methodist Church officiating. Eulogist will be Lois Brummer. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund. Burial of the cremains will be in the Darby Cemetery at a later date.
