Shirley Lorene (Gordy) Small
March 10, 1927 – December 7, 2014

Shirley Lorene (Gordy) Small, first born of Fred and Florence (Corder) Gordy was born on March 10, 1927 and departed this life on December 7, 2014.

Shirley graduated from the Lancaster High School in 1944.

She worked at many jobs-no job was too big or too hard. She took pride in doing every job as well as and probably better than anyone else could. She often said her favorite job was waitress.

She was united in marriage to Clark Junior Small on December 24, 1945 in Olathe, Kansas and to this union one son, Robert Marvin Small was born.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Joyce Shively of Kirksville, Missouri with whom she made her home for over a year. She entered Kirksville Manor Care in September and was a resident there until her death. Also surviving are her daughter-in-law, Vicki Small Buckallew of Lancaster, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Robbie Small and wife, Lisa of Greentop, Missouri, Kara Buckallew and husband, Kevin of Moulton, Iowa and Trent Small of St. Louis, Missouri; 7 great grandchildren, Summer Small, Trevyn Small and Raina Small of Greentop, Missouri and Allyson Kubinski, Sydney Kubinski, Mariah Buckallew and Kelsey Buckallew all of Moulton, Iowa; one aunt, Mable Corder of Centerville, Iowa; one uncle, Tracey Corder of Moulton, Iowa; nieces; nephews; cousins; other family members and a great many friends.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clark Junior Small on May 18, 1998; her son, Robert M. Small on May 25, 2000; 3 brothers, Freddie, Don and Warren and her friend, Lavern Mathes

Shirley was a member of the Coatsville Baptist Church and after moving to Kirksville attended the Church of God Holiness when her health permitted. Shirley quickly became a favorite among the staff at the Kirksville Manor Care and was quick to tell everyone how well they treated her.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Pastor William Hayton, assisted by Pastor Terry Hunsaker officiating. Music will be provided by Mike Stockton, pianist performing special selections of "Mansion Over The Hilltop" and "Amazing Grace". Pallbearers will be Volney Gordy, Veldon Gordy, Vernon Gordy, Verl Gordy, David Shively and Michael Shively. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri one hour prior to the funeral services. Memorials have been established for Howell Cemetery.
