Richard Lynn Starrett

June 26, 1934 – July 12, 2019

Richard Lynn Starrett, 85 of Lancaster, Missouri passed away at his home in Lancaster, Missouri on Friday, July 12, 2019.

The son of Ray Emory and Pauline Eldred (Morehead) Starrett, he was born on June 26, 1934 at the Laughlin Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri.  On December 22, 1953 at the Christian Church Parsonage in Lancaster, Missouri he was united in marriage to Dorothy Dean and to this union four sons were born, David Randall, Daryl Lynn, Dennis Michael and Dana Jon.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Lancaster, Missouri; his children, David Starrett and wife, Sheree of Overland Park, Kansas, Daryl Starrett and wife, Bana of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Dennis Starrett and wife, Kathy of Lancaster, Missouri and Dana Starrett and wife, Tracy of Unionville, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Nicole Parsons and husband, William, Marshall Starrett and wife, Andrea, Spencer Starrett and wife, Amanda, Emily Smith and husband, Cameron, Elizabeth Starrett, Rochelle Starrett, Chelsea Starrett and Ashley Starrett; 8 great grandchildren, Lane and Mason Parsons,  Nova and Kane Starrett, Casey Starrett, Hayden Williams and Walker and Caroline Smith; other family members and many good friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents and one brother in infancy, Paul Emory Starrett.

Richard was inducted into the United States Army on September 9, 1953 and was honorably discharged September 7, 1956.  Following his discharge from the United States Army, Richard worked for several rural telephone companies in the surrounding areas, drove a delivery truck for John Morrell Company, was an independent pole inspector for Tri County Electric and Lewis County Electric and was an independent insurance agent for several companies, retiring from Starrett Insurance Company after approximately thirty years of service.  In addition to his busy life, he had a passion for farming, raising Limousin cattle and restoring Farmall tractors.

Richard was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri.  He was also an Honorary member of the Schuyler County Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow.    Richard was an International Harvester Red Power Member.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Leanna Van Zandt officiating.  Music will be provided by soloist, Cameron Smith who will be singing, "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace".  Pallbearers will be Phillip Chalupa, Mark Chalupa, Kenny Miller, Ronnie McElhinney, Rex Beeler and John Grossnickle.   Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Starrett, Spencer Starrett, Lane Parsons, Mason Parsons, Casey Starrett, Kane Starrett, Hayden Williams, William Parsons and Cameron Smith.  Visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.  Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri.  Military rites will be conducted by the Scotland County VFW Post #4958.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Missouri.
