Richard "Dick" Elmor Evans, 90, of Queen City, Missouri formerly of Glenwood, Missouri, passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
The son of William Clinton "Bill" and Cora Elizabeth (Leedom) Evans, he was born on May 19, 1933 on his mom and dad's farm three miles west of Glenwood, Missouri. On November 25, 1954 in Queen City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jane Ridge by the Reverend Hollis Bowen and to this union two sons were born, James Richard Evans and an infant son.
Dick is survived by his son James Evans and wife Jill of Keokuk, Iowa; one sister, Fern Johnson of Queen City, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many good friends.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Carolyn Evans on July 25, 2015 after 61 wonderful years of marriage; one infant son; one brother, James C. Evans; one sister, Hazel Whitlow and her husband, Louie and two brothers-in-law, Marvin Steen and Ted Johnson.
Dick and Carolyn were members of the Lancaster Baptist Church, where Dick was a deacon, and they attended regularly for many years as long as their health permitted.
Dick was employed driving a coal truck in the late 1950's and early 1960's; then the Simmons Stave Mill in Glenwood, Missouri from the late 1960's to the early 1970's. He then had a rural star mail route up until 1976 when he was elected sheriff of Schuyler County Missouri. He was re-elected three times as sheriff before retiring from the sheriff's position in 1990. He was well known for being a kind and caring sheriff for the people of Schuyler County. He was then elected three terms as Northern County Commissioner before retiring for good in 1996. He never lost an election!
Dick was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He loved helping people, was an inspiration to many and never met a stranger.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, Missouri with Mikel Roberts officiating. Music will be provided by Donna Welte, pianist with special selections of "Softly and Tenderly" and "I'll Fly Away." A eulogy will be given by Ronnie McElhinney. Pallbearers will be Carl Crump, Ronnie McElhinney, Brian Ridge, Tim Hatfield, David Anderson and Jeff Steen. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, Missouri. A memorial has been established for the Lancaster Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Missouri. Military rites will be provided by the Schuyler County Legion Post #0784. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
