Maxine Shirley (Oakes) Garrett

October 9, 1944 – April 27, 2025

Maxine Shirley (Oakes) Garrett, 80 of Sedalia, Missouri passed away at the Fair View Nursing Home in Sedalia, Missouri on Sunday, April 27, 2025 where she had been a resident for two years.

The daughter of Maxey Burr and Irene Myrn (Eister) Oakes, she was born on October 9, 1944 in Oxford, Iowa.  On July 15, 1962 in Downing, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Loyd Edward "Bud" Garrett and to this union one son, Timothy Lee was born.

Maxine is survived by one sister, Bonnie Oakes of Sedalia, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Carol Seamster of Queen City, Missouri and Barbara Garrett of Waynesville, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Lyle Garrett and wife, Lana of Harrisburg, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loyd Edward "Bud" Garrett on June 7, 2023; one son, Timothy Lee Garrett on October 29, 2018; one brother, Dale Eugene Oaks on November 2, 2024; sister-in-law, Nancy Bishop; brothers-in-law, Glen Garrett and Charles Seamster and nieces, Michelle Shern and Michelle McNeal.

After Bud's retirement as a Union motor grader operator in the St. Louis area, he and Maxine retired to Camdenton, Missouri where they took many trips enjoying the beautiful scenery and watching wildlife wherever they were.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Larry Smith, Pastor of the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri officiating. Special music selections will be "I'll Fly Away", "I Can Only Imagine" and "How Great Thou Art".  Memorials have been established for the Campground Cemetery.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.  Burial will be in the Campground Cemetery, east of Downing, Missouri.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Missouri.
