Matthew David Sublett, 40, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.

The son of David Leon and Reta Jolene (Sparks) Sublett, he was born on August 21, 1982 in Springfield, Missouri. He grew up active in football, baseball, basketball and soccer. He was a starter linebacker for Parkview High School in Springfield, Missouri. He was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Battlefield where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by the Reverend John Elder.

On December 25, 2014 in Kirksville, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Carol LaRue Neighbors.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Sublett of Kirksville, Missouri; one son, Bly Sublett of Willard, Missouri; one step daughter, Demi Calhoun of Kirksville, Missouri; his parents, David and Jolene Sublett of Kirksville, Missouri; father-in-law, Clinton Neighbors of Unionville, Missouri; mother-in-law, Margaret Baxter of Sun City, Arizona; uncles and aunts, Kenny and Carol Sparks of Greentop, Missouri and Christine Davis and husband, David of Sedalia, Missouri; many close cousins, other family members and numerous friends.

Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents, Max and Dorothy Sparks and John and Maleta Sublett.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 at the Rose Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, Missouri officiating. A musical selection will be "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" performed by his mother, Jolene Sublett. Memorials have been established for Matthew's son, Bly Sublett for his Educational Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri.
