Mary Joyce Hurley

Mary Joyce Hurley, 72 of Livonia, Missouri passed away at her home in Livonia, Missouri on Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
The daughter of Ralph Edwin and Mary Marguerite (Aeschliman) Martin, she was born on October 31, 1942 in Centerville, Iowa. On June 20, 1965 at the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Larry Doyle Hurley and to this union three children were born, Rhett Anthony, Chedrick Scott and Kristin Shay.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Hurley of Livonia, Missouri; three children, Rhett Hurley of Livonia, Missouri, Ched Hurley and wife, Traci of Trenton, Missouri and Kristin Miller and husband, Andrew of Kansas City, Missouri; 7 grandchildren, Mason Hurley and wife, Melissa of Maryville, Missouri, Gabriel Hurley of Livonia, Missouri, Scotlin, McKinley and Mykah Hurley of Trenton, Missouri, Brooks and Adeline Miller of Kansas City, Missouri; one step granddaughter, Hope Terry from Kirksville, Missouri; two brothers, Don Martin and wife, Linda of Lancaster, Missouri and her twin, Jon Martin and wife, Linda of Roach, Missouri; one sister, Carolyn Martin of Ottumwa, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Linda Beeler of Fenton, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; other family members and many good friends.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Doyle and Dixie Hurley; one sister, Marilyn Martin; grandparents, Frank and Luretta Aeschliman and Ira and Ethel Martin; three uncles, Richard Martin, Garrett Aeschliman and Ralph Aeschliman and two aunts, Beatrice Milner and Jessie Sue Cool.
After graduating from the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri in 1960, Joyce attended college at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She started her teaching career in 1964 at Quincy Junior High in Quincy, Illinois. After her marriage to Larry in 1965, they both taught in Quincy, Illinois. In 1966, she moved to Canton, Missouri as a Physical Education Teacher. She later taught in Scotland and Putnam County. She received her Master's Degree at University of Missouri in Library Science and finished her professional career in Schuyler County schools as a librarian.
Joyce was a very faithful member of the Lancaster Christian Church of Lancaster, Missouri; she loved the people in her church and was very involved with the church activities.
Her main hobbies were homemaking, church, family, her children's activities and especially in recent years following her grandchildren's activities. She loved gardening, flowers and the life in a rural setting. She was always thoughtful to others, more than herself and her family and many friends loved her. Joyce also enjoyed traveling, going to the lake with family and hosting family get togethers. Her family was her main priority.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri with Pastor Sonny Smyser assisted by Pastor Steve Altheide and Pastor Billy Wallace officiating. Music will be provided by Maureen Watkins, organist and Beth Withrow, soloist performing special selections of "How Great Thou Art" and "If You Could See Me Now". Pallbearers will be Jeff Beeler, John Finlay, Mason Hurley, Ben Martin, Matthew Martin and Bill Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary and Bonnie Head, Paul and Karen Bradshaw, Bruce and Brenda Johnson, Jerry and Betty Grogan, Eddie and Linda Berry, Bob and Carol Tade, Gary and Patsy Shipley, Larry and Brenda Warrick and the late Robert Hurley. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Livonia, Missouri.
