August 31, 1937 – June 8, 2012

Marvel Lavon McNary, 74 of Lancaster, Missouri passed away at his residence on Friday, June 08, 2012.

The son of Marvel Lee and Opal Lavelma (Jones) McNary, he was born on August 31, 1937 in Davis County, Iowa. Following graduation from the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri, he was inducted into the United States Army. He was then united in marriage to Marridee F. Garrett on June 30, 1962 in Schuyler County, Missouri. To this union two children were born, Michael Lee and Teresa Lynn. He was later united in marriage to Leona (Menke) Sylvester on August 12, 1989 in Schuyler County, Missouri.

Survivors include his spouse, Leona of rural Lancaster, Missouri; his children, Michael Lee McNary and special friend, Judy Nelson of Moberly, Missouri and Teresa Lynn Barnes and husband, Richard of LaPlata, Missouri; two step children, Mary Catherine Erickson and husband, Paul of Garland, Texas and Monica Jean Reed and husband, Mike of Fort Madison, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Lexi Barnes of LaPlata, Missouri and Racheal Newman of Fort Madison, Iowa; 1 sister, Mary Hoy of Davenport, Iowa; nieces; nephews; other family members and many good friends.

Lavon is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Kathleen in infancy and Christine Clark.

Lavon was a member of the Fabius Baptist Church of Lancaster, Missouri.

Lavon received an honorable discharge from the United States Army. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Schuyler County and began working for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a Section Foreman and also farmed.

Lavon was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be missed by all of his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith officiating. A special CD music selection of "Daddy's Hands" will be performed followed by soloist, Mike McNary singing "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" and "Walking On Heaven's Road". Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2012 between the hours of 6-8:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Paul Erickson, Mike Reed, Jeff Hill, John Jones, Jimmy Dee McNary and Stanley Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Menke, Rusty Simbro and Eddy Jones. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund. Burial will be in the Fabius Cemetery, east of Lancaster, Missouri. The Scotland County VFW Post #4958 will conduct military rites. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
