Obituary

Marianna Picolet
April 17, 1937 - September 27, 2015

Marianna Picolet of Queen City, Missouri, formerly of the Quad Cities, passed away on September 27, 2015 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Born on April 17, 1937, she was the first-born daughter to Harry and Lena Schmell, one of ten children.

She attended Allerton, Iowa school district where she played guard on the high school basketball team, later graduating Allerton High School in 1956. Marianna was united in marriage to Ronald Merle Picolet, Sr. on March 3, 1956 in Fredonia, Kansas. That union blessed them with five children, Ronald Jr. (Kay) of Eldridge, Iowa, Rebecca (Steve) Kammerer of Blue Grass, Iowa, Richard of Queen City, Missouri, Robert (Lora) of Blue Grass, Iowa and Randy of Davenport, Iowa. Her children blessed her with eleven grandchildren, Jason (Nicole) Picolet, Shannon Picolet, Sheryl (Andy) Nezworski, Stephan (Brooke) Kammerer, step granddaughter, Stacie (Lee) Vellman, Christopher (Christina) and Justin Picolet, Kendra and Keith Picolet and step grandsons, Randy Shutters II and Ricky and Ryan Mull. Blessings continued with eleven great grandchildren that include Stetson Picolet, Ava Mae, Beckum and Ezra Picolet, Garet and Lilli Gustaf, Kolton and Kaleb Kammerer and another great grandchild due in February 2016, Mackenzie and Zachery Picolet and Victor Shutters.

In earlier years, Marianna played third base on a women's softball team, bowled on several bowling leagues and cheered on the St. Louis Cardinals! She loved her flowers and had a green thumb for roses and mums. One of her favorite things to do was to sit outside on the swing with her husband and watch the wildlife on the farm they owned in Glenwood, Missouri. She also loved to play cards and go out to eat with family and friends. Mary was known for her homemade bread served with peanut butter at family holiday gatherings and her famous mayonnaise chocolate cake. She loved to watch western movies and listen to old time country music while she cleaned her home on Saturday mornings.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years; her 5 children; siblings, Lorretta Sandman, Everett Schmell (Dee), Jane Mullins (Marvin), Roy Schmell, Jim Schmell (Vickie) and Frances (Tony) Paul and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gerald, Roland (Ron) and Ralph and her brother-in-law, Bill Sandman. Marianna was a Christian woman who now finds peace and comfort in the arms of the Lord and who has now been reunited with the family and friends who have gone before her.
