Mardell Kathlene (Steggall) Kirby, 87 of Lancaster, Missouri passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri on Thursday, August 2, 2012.
The daughter of Maurice Anthony and Berniece Marion (Kunkle) Steggall, she was born on October 2, 1924 in Oelwein, Iowa. Mardell was a graduate of Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri.
Mardell was married to Harold E. George on February 6, 1943 and to this union three children were born, Fredrick M. George, Robert E. George and Jane A. George. On January 6, 1973 in Joplin, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Duane Kirby.
Survivors include her children, Fred M. George of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Robert E. George and wife, Sherri of Aurora, Missouri and Jane Claas and husband, Carl of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; two step daughters, Diane Kirby of Bowerston, Ohio and Dara Doan and husband, Lee of Deerfield, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, Denise Nelson and husband, Phil of Chesterfield, Missouri, Heather (George) Priebe and husband, Mark of Republic, Missouri; Holly (George) Thomas and husband, Troy of Popular Bluff, Missouri, Patrick McCann of Mt. Vernon, Missouri and Dawn Lewis of Ohio; 2 great grandchildren, Conner Priebe and Chloe Priebe of Republic, Missouri; one brother, Jim Steggall and wife, Marilyn of Lancaster, Missouri along with many nephews and nieces, other family members and many friends.
Mardell is preceded in death by her parents; her spouses, Harold George on March 22, 1991 and Duane Kirby on December 23, 2011; three sisters, Darlene LeVan, LaVerle Atteberry and Betty Beeler and one brother, William Dale Steggall.
Mardell was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri at 2:00 p.m. with Homer Poor, Pastor of the Scotland County Parish officiating. Music will be recorded selections of "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow", "In The Garden" and "Amazing Grace". Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial services from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Nutrition Site or the Schuyler County Nursing Home. Burial will be at the Sunset Hills Burial Park and Memory Gardens in Canton, Ohio.
