Lillie Vendetta (Jackson) Smith

Lillie Vendetta Smith, 98 of Downing, Missouri passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri on Wednesday, May 8, 2013.
The daughter of Jesse A. and Rosa Eller (Cleeton) Jackson, she was born on July 25, 1914 in rural Downing, Missouri. On May 4, 1934 in Memphis, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Charley Warren Smith and to this union 3 children were born, Mona Vee, Carolyn and Elwyn.
Lillie is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Stanley of Downing, Missouri; her son, Elwyn Smith and wife, Sandra of Stanton, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren (Laine King, Lorrie King Jackson, Wayne King, Kelly King, Mona Rae (Missy) King Bennett, Sherry Stanley and Heather Smith Bartlett); 11 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Lillie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charley on March 3, 1993; one daughter, Mona Vee King on July 10, 2010 and brothers and sisters, Leonard and Lester Jackson, Sylvia Watson-Cook, Leora Miller, Ethel Jackson and Pauline Eastep-Pnovsky.
Lillie and Charley lived on a farm in the Drakesville, Iowa vicinity. Lillie worked more than 20 years at the Davis County Hospital, from which she retired. After Charley passed away, Lillie made her home in the Downing, Missouri area for a number of years as long as her health permitted. She then became a resident of the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri until the time of her death.
Lillie's life was devoted to her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was very active in the Downing Community Christian Church and served as Deaconess, was the treasurer and volunteer of the year for the OATS bus and Grand Marshall of the Downing Appreciation Days parade. Lillie loved to help at the Downing Depot Museum, Downing Smorgasbord and the Downing Appreciation Days celebration.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Jerry Lanferman, Pastor of the Word of Life Fellowship Church in Bloomfield, Iowa will be officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Betty Anderson and soloist, Schelle Cooley performing special selections of "One Day At A Time" and "The Old Rugged Cross". A eulogy will be given by Sherry Stanley. Pallbearers will be Laine King, Wayne King, Ryan King, Ross King, Steve Miller and Jamie Jackson. Memorials have been established for Alzheimer's Association. Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery in Downing, Missouri.
