John Robert Dodson

John Robert Dodson 91, of Lancaster, Missouri passed away at his home on Saturday, February 27, 2016. The son of Joseph and Belva (Bridgeman) Dodson, John Robert was born on May 24, 1924 in Bigelow, Missouri. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and following graduation enlisted in the US Army, serving in Germany for two years. On August 5, 1945, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Jean Andrews and to this union three children were born.
John Robert was a farmer, a profession that he loved. He built and operated the Motel Plaza before being employed as Deputy and later as Sheriff for Schuyler County. He was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. On his 80th birthday, his favorite gift was a poodle named Laci, his constant laptop companion!
John Robert is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home; children, Joe Dodson and wife, Vicki of Nevada, Iowa, Judy Peterson and husband, Dwight of Lancaster, Missouri and Joy Anderson and husband, Jeff of Hartford, Missouri; grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other family members.
John Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Jo Houston and her husband, Donald; two sisters in infancy; son-in-law, John Steele and a great grandson, Stryker Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Arni Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri with Sam Houston assisted by Billy Wallace officiating. Organist, Maureen Watkins and soloists, Cole Tippett, Beth Withrow and Jayci Beamer will provide music. Special musical selections will be "Supper Time" and "In The Garden". Pallbearers will be Robert Watkins, Phil Beeler, Charles Beeler, Dennis Starrett, Travis Harris and Jim Bonnell. Honorary pallbearers will be John Tippett, Gary Mulvaney, Dean Avery, John Deahl and the Deacons of the Lancaster Christian Church. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Arni Memorial Cemetery. Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri with military rites conducted by the Schuyler County American Legion Post 0784.
