Herbert Ross Forsythe
May 23, 1929 – July 6, 2012
Herbert Ross Forsythe, 83 of Greentop, Missouri formerly of Lancaster, Missouri passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri where he had been a resident since March 19, 2012.

The son of Roy Elvin and Anna Mabel (Welsh) Forsythe, he was born on May 23, 1929 in rural Schuyler County, Missouri. He attended Glenwood Schools through the 10th grade and graduated from the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri. On November 2, 1958 he was united in marriage to Georgia King Watkins and to this union no children were born.

Herb is survived by his 2 brothers, Eugene Forsythe and wife, Mary of Lancaster, Missouri and Raymond Forsythe and wife, Ellazene of Edinburg, Texas; 1 half brother, Steve Forsythe of Waterloo, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Patricia Jewel of Edinburg, Texas, Robert E. Forsythe of Downing, Missouri, Ronald C. Forsythe and wife, Gwen of Donahue, Iowa and Dennis R. Forsythe of Mesa, Arizona; great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; other family members and many good friends.

Herb is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Richard Leroy Forsythe; 1 sister, Dorothy Glenn on November 27, 2011 and his wife, Georgia King Forsythe on December 19, 2006.

Herb served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War and also received a Purple Heart. Herb also received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal W/2 and the United Nations Service Medal. After being honorable discharged, Herb returned to Schuyler County and began working as a barber in Kirksville, Missouri for several years. Following his career as a barber, Herb began working with the Social Services Department of the United States Government from which he retired.

Herb was a member of the Glenwood Methodist Church in Glenwood, Missouri and was baptized on the same day as his sister, Dorothy Glenn. Herb was also a lifetime member of the Schuyler County Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Herb's hobbies included training bird dogs for a number of years for people throughout the local area and working with horses. Through his trainings with these animals, Herb received many trophies.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Leanna van Zandt, Pastor of the Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri assisted by Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Organist, Maureen Watkins, will provide musical selections of "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden". Memorials have been established for the Glenwood Cemetery. Burial of the cremains will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
