Harold David Helmick, 82 of Kirksville, Missouri, formerly of Lancaster, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Life Care Nursing & Rehab Center in Brookfield, Missouri.
The son of Harold Harvey Helmick and Nancy Jane (Hagan) Helmick Wilcox, he was born on March 29, 1942 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Davis County High School in Bloomfield, Iowa in 1960. Following his graduation, he was united in marriage to Jeanetta Goodson on December 2, 1962 and to this union five children were born, Tammy, Brenda, Kevin, Angela and Aaron. David later married Beth Maxey from Bangs, Texas.
David is survived by his children, Tammy (Kevin) Johnson of Queen City, Missouri, Brenda (Leon) Schindler of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kevin (Christina) Helmick of Coleman, Texas, Angela (Yahya Mitchell) Helmick of Omaha, Nebraska and Aaron Helmick of Ottumwa, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; special friend, Judy Eckles of California; sisters, Donna Smithhart of Ottumwa, Iowa, Jean McAntire of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jan (LeRoy) Griffith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sharon (Delbert) Pattison of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Deb (Mike) Baughman of Pulaski, Iowa, Sara (Matthew) Cregar of Vallejo, California, Kate Milligan of West Des Moines, Iowa and Andrea (Kevan) Bogert of Drakesville, Iowa and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Charlene Clow and Patricia Christy; one grandson, Jonus McClendon.
Dave was a farmer, mechanic, truck driver, aviator, musician and a gardener. He loved restoring automobiles and building a homestead. He made friends wherever he went. In recent years, he attended Hamilton Street Baptist Church in Kirksville, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Kevin Helmick as eulogist and Tammy Johnson as pianist. Special musical selections will be "Blessed Assurance" and a congregational singing of "The Lord's Prayer". Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com. Burial will be at a later date in the Sherman Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri.
