Gary Merlin Hurley

March 8, 1945 – October 31, 2020

Gary Merlin Hurley, 75 of Clinton, Missouri passed away at his home on Saturday, October 31, 2020.

The son of Phares Berdean and Maxine Deloris (Dover) Hurley, he was born on March 8, 1945 in Livonia, Missouri.  He was a graduate of the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri.  On March 16, 1968 in Unionville, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Kathy Waggoner.

Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy Hurley of Clinton, Missouri, four children, Todd Hurley and significant other, Terrie McElderry of Batavia, Iowa, Shelly Holt of Centerville, Iowa, Sandy Cain of Unionville, Missouri and Kimberly Versteegh and husband, Kelly of Ottumwa, Iowa; 10 grandchildren,  Jessica Hurley (Austin Finks) of Kirksville, Missouri, Amanda Hurley of Kirksville, Missouri, Courtney Hurley of Kirksville, Missouri, Colton Hurley of Kirksville, Missouri, Austin Versteegh of Ottumwa, Iowa, Brandi Cain of Unionville, Missouri, Ashley Driggers (Kevin) of Plattsburgh, Missouri, Izaiah Rushman of Agency, Iowa, Tanner DeCoteau (Heather) of Unionville, Missouri and Justyce Hunt of Unionville, Missouri; 22 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lois Hurley of Ottumwa, Iowa; nieces and nephews and other family members.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ailey and Marvin Hurley.

Gary was an over-the-road truck driver for many years working for the Barr Nunn Trucking Company.  He was also the President of the Missouri Miners of Hartford, Missouri for several years.

Gary was an avid deer and duck hunter with duck hunting as his favorite.  He played in a country band for many years and attended bluegrass festivals all over the area but above all he loved his family the most.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. John's Cemetery in Livonia, Missouri with Todd Hurley, Pastor of the Church of the Brethren in Libertyville, Iowa.  Music will be special selections of "I'll Fly Away" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain".  Memorials have been established for the St. John's Cemetery.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.  Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Livonia, Missouri.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Missouri.
