Gary Dean Garrett, 62 of rural Memphis, Missouri passed away at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.

The son of Charlie Elson and Juanita Fern (Long) Garrett, he was born on September 20, 1952 in rural Scotland County, Missouri. On August 8, 1971, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Denise Byrn and to this union four daughters were born, Carol, Laura, Christina and Patricia.

Gary is survived by his wife, Denise Garrett of rural Memphis, Missouri; his daughters, Carol and Ron Thomas of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Laura and Rusty Sands of Unionville, Missouri, Christina and Robert Miller of Memphis, Missouri and Patricia and Matt Jacobs of Maxwell, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Chance and Logan Thomas, Savanah, Grant and Matthew Sands, Kerbee Willier, Payton and Conner Miller and Zane and Zoey Jacobs; 4 sisters, Marridee Davis and husband, Sam of LaPlata, Missouri, Arleta Miller of Lancaster, Missouri, Sharon Clark and husband, David of Kirksville, Missouri and Marilyn Wilson and husband, Bobby of Fulton, Missouri; 2 brothers, Raymond Garrett and wife, Pixie of Orion, Illinois and Clifford Garrett of Brashear, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie on February 8, 1995 and Juanita on August 20, 1994; 2 brothers, Terry Garrett and Charles Garrett, Jr.

Gary was a member of the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, Missouri.

He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish, hunt and attend farmer's market.

Gary's life was devoted to his family, as he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren were the twinkle in his eyes and he loved spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Music will be provided by Twila Anderson, pianist. Special CD musical selections of "In The Garden", "Daddy's Hands" and "See You Again" will be performed. Pallbearers will be David Wayne Clark, Mike McNary, Adam Byrn, Nathan Byrn, Damon Byrn, Cory Byrn, Jerry Grubb and Eric Probst. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Garrett, Tony Garrett, Brian Miller and Doug Garrett. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the family. Burial will be in the Campground Cemetery southeast of Downing, Missouri.
