Forrest Junior (Frosty) Farrell, 64, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 at his home in Lancaster, Missouri.
The son of Walter Franklin and Avis Wilma (Schmitter) Farrell, he was born on May 29, 1953, in Kirksville, Missouri. He was a graduate of the Schuyler R-I graduating class of 1971 in Lancaster, Missouri. Following graduation, he obtained a job in the Amana Colonies and worked there for approximately one year. In December 1972, he began his career at Southwestern Bell Telephone where he worked until his retirement.
Survivors include his sister, Ivas Kay Shelby of Kirksville, Missouri; one nephew, Jonathan Shelby and wife, Nicole of Columbia, Missouri; great niece and nephews, Kaitlyn Shelby, Hughes Shelby and Theo Shelby, all of Columbia, Missouri; two special girls, Nikki Cook Hines of Baltimore, Maryland and Laci Cook of Kirksville, Missouri; one aunt, Martha Schmitter of Lancaster, Missouri; numerous cousins; other family members and many good friends.
Frosty is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Franklin on May 9, 2012, and Avis Wilma on October 18, 2013, and one brother in infancy, Doyle Franklin Farrell.
After retiring from SW Bell, Frosty pursued a number of old and new hobbies. He continued to take an active role in the family farm, bred American Paint horses, enjoyed Sprint car racing, Mizzou basketball, and was a licensed amateur radio enthusiast. As a certified pyrotechnician, he enjoyed preparing and presenting community fireworks displays. He took many interesting trips with his motor rail car. His interest in trains peaked, and he became a licensed locomotive engineer. This led him to the opportunity to be an operator on the world's largest rail car, the Schnabel WECX801.
Frosty was an active member in his community and served in many organizations as both a member and officer. He was a member of the Glenwood Masonic Lodge AF & AM #427; 2017 Caldwell Chapter No. 53 in Kirksville, Missouri; 2017 Kirksville Council No. 44 in Kirksville, Missouri; Fly Commander #22, Knights Templar in Kirksville, Missouri; Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Moila Shrine Club, St. Joseph, Missouri; American Paint Horse Association; Rhonda Vincent Fan Club; Bluegrass Music Association of Iowa; Iowa Railroad Historical Society; Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad; First Iowa Division Rail Car Train Club where he was an Excursion Coordinator and Chairman of the Board and NEMO Model Train Club of LaPlata, Missouri.
Frosty never knew a stranger and was a very friendly and jolly person. He was adored by his nephew and children, and Frosty adored them as well.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Pastor Sonny Smyser. Musical selections will be "When I Travel My Last Mile (He Will Hold My Hand)" and "On The Other Side". Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Arni Memorial Cemetery or to the Schuyler County Nutrition Site. Burial will be at a later date, as the body has been cremated, in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
