Forest Dale Poe, 85, of Downing, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

The son of Forest and Charity (Dellinger) Poe, he was born on April 10, 1928 in rural Downing, Missouri. Dale served his country in the United States Army during World War II and after being honorably discharged, he returned to Downing, Missouri where he was a dairy and livestock farmer.

Dale was united in marriage on November 28, 1948 in Lancaster, Missouri, to Sarah Marjorie (Marge) Kight and to this union 3 children were born, Penny, Debby and Doug.

Dale is survived by his three children, Penny Swindler and husband, Steve of Downing, Missouri, Debby Rayburn and husband, Mike of Bloomfield, Iowa and Doug Poe and wife, Julie of Downing, Missouri; 6 grandchildren, Kim Beeler and husband, John of Lancaster, Missouri, Heather Western and husband, Kevin of Queen City, Missouri, Carmen McCrea and husband, Jim of Eddyville, Iowa, Justin Rayburn and wife, Julie of Eureka, Illinois, Caleb Poe and wife, Alena of Kirksville, Missouri and Gavin Poe and wife, Jennifer of Downing, Missouri; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Nellie Lee Woodruff of Kahoka, Missouri and Judy Schmitter and husband, Gilbert of Queen City, Missouri; 1 brother, W. O. Poe and wife, Karen of Downing, Missouri; 1 sister-in-law, Ann Robinson and husband, Arthur of Loveland, Colorado; other relatives and many good friends.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marge on June 26, 2007 and twin grandchildren.

Dale and Marge were instrumental in bringing the Share Food Program to the Downing, Missouri area that was accepted by many families. They also supported and were very willing volunteers when needed with the Junior Livestock Show in Queen City, Missouri and especially enjoyed the Kiddie Races. They were also very active with the Downing 4-H Club.

Dale was a supportive husband for nearly 59 years, a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, enjoyed life and had an unforgettable laugh.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Special CD selections of "Amazing Grace" and "Go Rest High On The Mountain" will be performed. Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Beeler, Kevin Western, Jim McCrea, Justin Rayburn, Caleb Poe and Gavin Poe. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri. Memorials have been established for Downing 4-H Club or the Downing Cemetery. Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery in Downing, Missouri with military rites by the Scotland County VFW Post 4958.
