Florence Irene (West) Shepherd, 94 of Lancaster, Missouri passed away at her home in Lancaster, Missouri on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
The daughter of Simon Newton and Bertha Inez (Neeley) West, she was born on October 30, 1921 in rural Lancaster, Missouri. She was a 1939 graduate of the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Woodrow Wilson Shepherd on November 28, 1948 in Lancaster and to this union, four children were born, Susan, Bill, Gene and Joni.
Survivors include her children, Susan Shepherd of Hannibal, Missouri, Bill Shepherd of West Chester, Ohio, Gene Shepherd of Lancaster, Missouri and Joni Newland of Lancaster, Missouri; two grandchildren, Hillary Hopkins and husband, Mitch of Prairie Village, Kansas and Jordan Newland of Columbia, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Grace, Kauffman and Nola of Prairie Village, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Margaret West of Baldwin City, Kansas; nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Woodrow on November 7, 1991 and her brother, Roy West on May 27, 2012.
Florence worked in the Schuyler County Courthouse in Lancaster, Missouri for a number of years as County Registrar, Deputy Assessor and Deputy Collector.
She was active in the Lancaster United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri. She also enjoyed music and was choir director in the community for a number of years.
Family and friends over the years enjoyed many holiday meals which she loved preparing.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri with H. R. Rogers, Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri assisted by Lonnie Johnson, Pastor of the Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Special music will be provided by a quartet plus one of Brad Drummond, Paul Reynolds, Penny Brummer, Shannon Goerig and Bob Jenks accompanied by Twila Anderson, pianist. Special musical selections will be "It Is Well", "The Wonder of It All" and "Victory In Jesus". Pallbearers will be Gary Stump, Darrell Kearse, Jordan Newland, Paul Reynolds, Donnie Martin and Randy Whitlow. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Starrett, Gerald Robinson, Roger Lucas, Don Pierce, Robert Watkins, Dwight Hart, Larry Briedwell and James West. Open visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 until 8:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Nutrition Site and the Adair County Humane Society. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
