Edward Francis Garrett
October 1, 1912 – March 16, 2012

Edward Francis Garrett (Tamp), age 99, formerly of Downing, Missouri passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Scotland County Nursing Home in Memphis, Missouri.

He was born on October 1, 1912 to Ebenezer N. Garrett and Grace Alice Pearl Cline in their home north of Memphis, Missouri. He was the eldest of three boys, Vilas Noris (Fat) Garrett and Herbert Glen (Red) Garrett. He was married to Hazel Margaret Stone and had two children, Rose Mary and Edward Lee. He was married on June 19, 1949 to Edna Delpha Shepherd, who passed away on June 7, 1999.

He worked road construction and farmed wheat in Kansas, Iowa and Missouri for 20 years before settling into farming and lived a quiet, simple life though he loved to tell of his travels.

Francis is survived by his children, Edward Lee Garrett of Viola, Illinois and Rose Mary Baxter of Downing, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, Brian Garrett of Alaska, Eddie Dean Harward of Fairfield, Iowa, Ricky Allen Harward of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Carla Dee Bohannon of Ottumwa, Iowa and Billie Jo Wiley of Birmingham, Iowa; 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Francis was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents; both brothers; and one great granddaughter, Dannidyn Montana Christine Garner who passed away in 1995 at the age of 5 months.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Phil Campbell of Douds, Iowa, officiating. Music will be CD selections of "You Should Have Seen It In Color", "Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers will be Jim Baxter, Jaye Baxter, Tommy Baxter, Edwin Jackson, Jim Brewer and Robert Seamster. Honorary pallbearer will be Scott Elliott. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri on Monday, March 19, 2012. Memorials have been established for the Campground Cemetery. Burial will be in the Campground Cemetery, east of Downing, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Missouri.
