Deryl Allen Swedberg
August 11, 1935 – October 18, 2013

Deryl Allen Swedberg, 78 of Lancaster, Missouri passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri on Friday, October 18, 2013.

The son of Lyle Graydon and Gladys Marie (Allen) Swedberg, he was born on August 11, 1935 in Hampton, Nebraska. On February 21, 1959 in Osage, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Field and to this union 6 children were born, Terri, Dean, Lisa, Karmen, Diana and Kris.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Swedberg of Lancaster, Missouri; his children, Terri Nelson and husband, Steve of Glenwood, Missouri, Lisa Dooley and husband, John L. of Shorewood, Illinois, Karmen Buckallew and fiancé, Albert Burt of Queen City, Missouri, Diana Nelson and husband, Rob of Lancaster, Missouri and Kris Beeler and husband, Joe of Ashland, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Marjorie Swedberg of Rudd, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and special friends.

Deryl is preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Dean Allen Swedberg on October 13, 2007; 1 grandson, Dakota Allen Swedberg and1 brother, Donald Ray Swedberg.

Deryl was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Queen City, Missouri.

Following his high school graduation from Rudd High School in l953, Deryl served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the United States Navy, he farmed in Iowa for several years. He and Pat then moved to Missouri where he was employed with local sale barns in the area followed by employment with Nelson Electric for approximately 20 years. During his employment at Nelson's, he was also employed as a janitor for several local banks and clinics.

Deryl and Pat celebrated 54 years together and he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed spending time on the farm, going to auctions, reading, and collecting "treasures".

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Reverend Bill Iammatteo-Code, pastor of the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Queen City, Missouri officiating. Special CD musical selections will be "Daddy's Hands" "Grandpa" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers will be Dusty Swedberg, Jeremy Buckallew, Scott Buckallew, Gregory Buckallew, Keaton Nelson, Josh Dooley, Thad Beeler, Joseph Beeler and Justice Beeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Norman, Rick Minter, Edward Norman, Lloyd Jackson, Randy Shaw and all the other grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Memorials have not yet been designated at this time. Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to nfhome.com.
