Burl Shaw
September 27, 1919 – January 21, 2016
(Leo) Burl Shaw, 96 of Downing, Missouri passed away at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
The son of Ralph and Golda Ida (Tallman) Shaw, he was born on September 27, 1919 in Schuyler County, Missouri. On January 16, 1945 in Yuma, Arizona, Burl was united in marriage to the love of his life, Anna Lee Andrews and to this union a son was born, Charles Lee.
Burl is survived by a son, Leo D. Shaw of Missouri; one brother, Jimmy Shaw and wife, Carol of Macon, Missouri; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Penny Golda (Shaw) Denny and husband, Pat of Hedrick, Iowa whose love and respect began in infancy and continues on; other family members; most special friends, Barbara and Henry Blessing, Carol Hasselbring and Danny and Lisa Reese; a special canine companion, Buddy and many good friends.
Burl is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Lee who passed away on January 3, 1990; his son, Charles Lee who died in infancy in 1947; five brothers, Ralph Junior (Bud), Buel, Billy and Richard who died in infancy; one sister, Eileen Thrasher and a special canine companion, Babe.
Burl served in the United States Navy during World War II then farmed for many years and also sheared sheep. In addition, he was always available when someone needed help.
Some are born to be givers
Some are born to be takers.
Burl Shaw was a giver all his life.
The finest man anyone could know.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Darby Cemetery, northeast of Lancaster, Missouri with Larry Smith, Pastor of the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri. A special CD selection of "Amazing Grace" will be performed at the cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Darby Cemetery. Burial will be in the Darby Cemetery, northeast of Lancaster, Missouri. The Schuyler County American Legion Post 0784 will perform military rites.
