Bette Ann (Wheaton) Herbert, 102 of Queen City, Missouri, formerly of Downing, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri.
The daughter of Ray Albert and Pearl May (Weiss) Wheaton, she was born on December 24, 1923 in Bloomfield, Iowa and attended Pulaski High School. She was united in marriage to James Doran Herbert on November 10, 1939 in Memphis, Missouri and to this union three children were born, Carolyn, James and Jerry.
Bette is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Schmitter and husband, Curtis of Downing, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Brenda Archibald of Kirksville, Missouri, Bruce Schmitter and wife, Chris of St. Joseph, Missouri, Shawn Neff, Sherry Metzger and husband, Rick, Elizabeth Herbert and James Herbert and fiancé, Allison all of Muscatine, Iowa, and Jamie Herbert and wife, Cheryl of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchildren; one great great great grandchild; one daughter-in-law, Linda Mitchell of West Burlington, Iowa; one sister, Marie Breuer of Fayetteville, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews and other family members.
Bette is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Doran Herbert on December 26, 2010; two sons, Jerry Herbert and James Herbert; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Herbert; one grandson, Lonnie Herbert; one granddaughter-in-law, Lori Schmitter; one grandson-in-law, Stephen Archibald; one great grandson, Cody Archibald; one great great grandson, Logan Foster; three brothers, John Wheaton and wife, Marilyn, Alvin Ray Wheaton and wife, Darlene and Harold Wheaton and wife, Marjorie and one brother-in-law, Andrew Breuer.
Bette and Doran were very active members of the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri. Bette was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Rebekah Lodge for many years.
Bette and Doran farmed in and around Bloomfield, Iowa for several years. In 1982 Doran and Bette moved to Downing, Missouri to make their home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri with Kramer Smith, Pastor of the Stiles Christian Church of Stiles, Iowa officiating and being assisted by Jake Levett, Pastor of the Downing Christian Church. Special musical selections will be “In The Garden” and “Amazing Grace.” Pallbearers will be Bruce Schmitter, Henry Blessing II, Jim Brewer, Jarrod Blessing, Jerry Duncan and Dick Middleton. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Downing Christian Church. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com. Burial will be in Bloomfield IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri.
