Avis Wilma (Schmitter) Farrell
September 23, 1923 – October 18, 2013

Avis Wilma (Schmitter) Farrell, 90 of Queen City, Missouri formerly of Lancaster, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Schuyler County Nursing Home where she had been a resident since July 2013.

The daughter of John Jacob and Emma Helen (Snowbarger) Schmitter, she was born on September 23, 1923 in rural Downing, Missouri. On September 18, 1947 in Kirksville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Walter Franklin Farrell and to this union three children were born, Doyle Franklin, Forrest and Ivas Kay. Avis and Frankie were able to celebrate 64 years of marriage.

Surviving Avis are her children, Forrest Farrell of Glenwood, Missouri and Ivas Kay Shelby of Kirksville, Missouri; one grandson, Jonathan Shelby and wife, Nicole of Columbia, Missouri; one great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Shelby of Columbia, Missouri; two special girls, Nikki Cook Hines of Florida and Laci Cook of Kirksville, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Martha Schmitter of Lancaster, Missouri; nieces and nephews and other family members.

Avis is preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 9, 2012; one son, Doyle Franklin Farrell in infancy; 2 brothers, Paul Edwin Schmitter and John Junior Schmitter and 2 sisters, Mary Louise Webster and Helen Ivalee Manning.

Avis was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Queen City, Missouri. She was also a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church Ladies Aide and the VFW Auxiliary.

Avis and Frankie were grain and livestock farmers for a number of years south of Lancaster where they made their home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Reverend Charles Jackson of the Hamilton Street Baptist Church officiating. Music will be provided by Margie Tippett, organist and Cole Tippett, soloist. Special musical selections will be "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow". Pallbearers will be Gilbert Schmitter, Leon Schmitter, Robert Seamster, Gary Smith, John Hoffman, and Vic Farrell. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2013 between the hours of 6-8:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for Schuyler County Nutrition Site. Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri.
