Arlie Dwayne Garrett

December 1, 1947 – August 22, 2023

Arlie Dwayne Garrett, 75, of Unionville, Missouri passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, Missouri where he had been a resident since November 2022.

The son of Leo Gordon and Lillian Marie (Long) Garrett, he was born on December 1, 1947 in Greensburg, Missouri.  He was united in marriage to Mary Mathes and to this union one daughter, Dalisa was born.

Arlie is survived by one daughter, Dalisa Garrett-Gailliard and husband, William Richard of Houston, Texas; two granddaughters, Celty Shae of Columbia, Missouri and Ashland Humphrey of Miami, Florida; one brother, Leo Garrett and wife, Bertha of Downing, Missouri; nieces, nephews and cousins including Laura Willier and husband, Rusty Sands of Unionville, Missouri and Christina Miller and husband, Robert of Memphis, Missouri and other family members.

Arlie is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry Dee Garrett and two nephews, Eugene Wayne Garrett and Jerry Gordon Garrett.

Arlie worked at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri as a maintenance man for many years before retiring. Arlie attended church for as long as his health permitted. Arlie had a love for sweets, jumbo shrimp cooked in the air fryer and supreme pizza from 7th Heaven in Unionville, Missouri. His favorite movie to watch was Tombstone. He especially loved John Wayne movies and watched them day in and day out.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri officiating.  Music will be special selections of "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace".   Pallbearers will be Robert Miller, Rusty Sands, Alan Garrett, Timothy Garrett, Tyler Garrett, Grant Sands and Conner Miller.  Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Memorials have been established for the family.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.  Burial will be in the Campground Cemetery southeast of Downing, Missouri.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri.
